About Jerusalem
Jerusalem is located in the country of Israel as highlighted on the world map.
The current population of the city is 780,540 and of the country is 8.059 million. The main languages spoken in Jerusalem are English, Arabic and Hebrew and the currency used is sheqel (divided in to 100 agorot). Jerusalem is the focal point for many Jewish holidays (such as Sukkot, Pesach and Shavuot) and is home to the Old City. The Old City is a small area (only 0.35 square mile) which once constituted the entire city of Jerusalem but has instead created a larger city growing around it.
The Old City was traditionally divided in to 4 uneven quarters :
1. The Muslim quarter- the largest and densely populated quarter and located in the North East of the Old City.
2. The Christian quarter - located in the North west of the Old City - above the Armenian quarter.
3. The Jewish quarter- situated in the South East of the Old City near the Temple Mount.
4. The Armenian quarter - lies in the South Western sector of the Old City in Jerusalem.
